The Advantages of a Fibre Channel SAN

A Fibre Channel SAN (Storage Area Network) is a storage array designed to be connected via SR (Short Range) or LR (Long Range) Fibre cable to a Fibre Channel switch, or directly attached to servers. Fibre Channel is a technology for transmitting data between computer devices at data rates of up to 8Gbps.  Fibre Channel is especially suited for connecting computer servers to shared storage devices. A SAN is a dedicated storage network that provides access to consolidated, block level storage, in this case through a 4Gb or 8Gb Fibre channel connection.
